Officer shot in South Andros

A team of Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) officers are searching for a gunman on the Island of South Andros, after he fired several shots at an off-duty police officer stationed in its north-eastern district.

According to Inspector Walter Evans, Press Liaison Officer for the RBPF, the shooting took place just 48 hours ago.

"On Sunday afternoon an off-duty police officer, stationed in South Andros, was approached by a member of the public who was making a complaint," explained Insp Evans. "The officer upon receiving this information, proceeded to address the matter."

Insp Evans added that as the officer was speaking to the complainant, the suspect opened fire. "The suspect, who was driving a vehicle, saw the complainant in the vicinity of the police and others," he said.
