CARICOM Summit: Short, but Firm StepsCentral Bureau, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Now that a dozen Caribbean states joined into a common market, the regional focus turns to the creation of a Single Market and Economy (CSME) in 2008.
Leaders of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) concluded their meeting Thursday in St. Kitts and Nevis with an agreement on contributions to the Regional Development Fund (RDF), number one demand of the smaller island states to make the changes.
The last difficulty settled, another six nations took the annual summit to join the Caribbean Single Market, the prelude to CSME.
The formula was activated last January with the participation of Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

UGA buys plane from ex-coach GoffAthens — The University of Georgia probably figured it had written its last big check to Ray Goff when it finished paying off a $1.1 million negotiated settlement to its former football coach three years ago.But guess whose signature was under the title of "seller" on an aircraft purchase agreement filed by the Georgia Athletic Association last month? That's right, Ray Goff's. The university has purchased a Beechcraft B200 Super King Air turboprop from a company owned in part by Goff, according to documents obtained by the Journal-Constitution under open records laws. The plane, which seats as many as 13 in the main cabin, will be used primarily for football and basketball recruiting trips and cost Georgia $1.6 million. "It didn't all go to me, now," said Goff, who lives in Watkinsville, just outside of Athens.
NBA players invade Nassau - on businessCapitalising on the attention sports figures tend to generate, the Ministry of Tourism hosted this year's annual NBA & WNBA Players Association Conference this past weekend at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island.Tourism Minister Obie Wilchcombe says that his mi-nistry is looking forward to a long term relationship with the NBA & WNBA. "We hope that you all enjoy your visit here so much that the NBA Players Association would want to host a conference every year here in The Bah-amas," Wilchcombe joked. He also said that Tourism, along with the Ministry of Sports, will be working toget-her to ensure that facilities are in place in order to host high profile sporting events here in the Bahamas. A number of NBA players were at Sunday's conference in the Crown Ballroom of the of the Atlantis Resort.
