bahamas cruisesBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationSingapore's Sentosa seeks Monaco glitzSINGAPORE (Reuters) - Turning Singapore's southern island of Sentosa into Asia's glitziest address could be quite a challenge. The British colonial rulers used Sentosa as a fort, while the Japanese carried out massacres on its beaches during World War Two. After independence in 1965, Singapore turned the island into a much-ridiculed tourist site. Now Sentosa -- about three times the area of Monaco -- is being developed to be Asia's answer to the French Riviera and a hang-out for the rich and famous. Sentosa's development is part of Singapore's wider economic makeover. As manufacturers shift jobs to low-cost rivals such as China, the city-state of 4.4 million people will have to rely more on services such as private banking and tourism for growth. Singapore is already Asia's leading private banking center, catering to wealthy Chinese, Taiwanese, Indonesians and Indians.

The 'phenomenal' growth of Freeport 1955 – 1975A recent editorial in The Freeport News suggested that Freeport has enjoyed 'phenomenal' growth over the past several decades and certainly when Hutchison arrived, the harbour and the hospitality industry received a boost but how does this compare with Freeport's early years?Everything is relative, of course, but I wonder if 'phenomenal' is the right word for the development of the last few decades? For instance, let us compare the recent development to the first two decades of the Freeport venture. From 1955 to 1975, an interlude of a mere 20 years, Freeport grew out of a virgin pine forest to become the undisputed second city of The Bahamas. A check list of the milestones of these early years is illuminating: * A major deepwater harbour the most commodious in The Bahamas was constructed by Daniel K.
Report Filed in Court by Pierre St-Laurent, Gomery Commission Expert, Demonstrates CINAR Commissioned Report to BeRonald A. Weinberg and the estate of his deceased wife, Micheline Charest, today announced the filing with the Quebec Superior Court of a comprehensive forensic and investigative accounting report that demonstrates that the Weinbergs are owed substantial sums of monies by Cinar Corporation, the company they founded. The report prepared by the Gomery Commission's expert, Pierre St-Laurent, the highly regarded chartered, investigative and forensic accountant, further demonstrates that the analysis presented to the Court by Glen Harloff, an accountant for Cinar, is a highly flawed analysis and that Harloff's conclusions, including that the Weinbergs owe Cinar monies, are erroneous. As the Court documents show, Harloff, unlike St-Laurent, is not a licensed forensic accountant. The Harloff report, commissioned by Cinar, previously had been put forward by Cinar as a key lynchpin of its litigation against Weinberg and the Charest estate.
