A win-wind proposition

Seven-day cruises for $500 to $600 in September. Fifty percent off a companion's room at an inclusive club on a Caribbean island. A fourth night free at a luxurious resort in the Bahamas.

That's good.

But many travelers will jump on these deals without giving a thought to why prices are discounted.

That's bad.

The reason? IT'S HURRICANE SEASON.

But don't automatically shy away from that cruise to Mexico, that all-inclusive on Jamaica, that diving expedition in the Cayman Islands.

Just be aware that nature has a habit of disrupting agendas during summer and fall. If your vacation plans include areas susceptible to hurricanes, purchase travel insurance when booking a trip.

It's important, however, to know what kind of insurance you are buying.

Jah Pickney is the first Canadian born musician to ever be nominated in these prestigious awards, whose purpose is to recognize and honour outstanding achievement in Caribbean Gospel Music.

RealTravel Accelerates Sunburst Vacations Word-of-Mouth Marketing ...

RealTravel(TM), (http://realtravel.com), a travel blogging and information web site and Sunburst Vacations, (http://www.sunburstvacations.com/), a provider of travel packages for destinations throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Islands of the Bahamas, and Bermuda, today announced a partnership to increase Sunburt's word-of-mouth marketing while providing travelers the opportunity to plan, book, capture and share their travels using their combined offerings.

A survey by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) reported that 43% of Americans cite friends and family as a source for information about places to visit or about flights, hotels or rental cars. Similarly, a Harris interactive poll revealed that 44% of consumers cite family, friends and co-workers as a top source for recommendations about travel purchases.

Christie in flight scare

A private jet flying Prime Minister Perry Christie back to Nassau from the Caribbean was involved in a dramatic landing just hours before he spoke at the renaming ceremony at the country's international airport.

The jet was chartered from a Miami company.

News of the incident was not made public, and although no one on board the aircraft was injured it was a frightening experience. Mr. Christie told a colleague that it was a "harrowing" incident. The aircraft was returning from the CARICOM heads of government meeting in St. Kitts when it developed "technical" problems.

It is understood that the plane suffered a hydraulic leak, which affected the braking system.

The Guardian understands that the aircraft had braking problems and this caused a full alert at the airport with fire tenders racing to the jet as it touched down shortly before midnight.

Setback for three-party political system

The attempt at third party politics in The Bahamas probably died yesterday, when The Coalition for Democratic Reform (CDR) announced at a news conference held at The Cable Beach Resort & Casino that with immediate effect, it was disbanding and joining forces with the Free National Movement (FNM). The announcement was made by Charles Maynard who was joined at the news conference by the Chairman of the FNM, Desmond Bannister and all his officers.

Democratic systems thrive on all being able to have a voice and in principle, when we have many political parties existing, this should translate into a broad spectrum of views being aired.

Why did the CDR come into existence? In my opinion, the only reason why the CDR was formed was because Dr Bernard Nottage was disgruntled at the Progressive Liberal Party's (PLP) hierarchy, in that he was not made the leader and he sought a means to have a platform; thus, the CDR was born.
