Town explores growth options

Little River officials are again exploring whether the area should incorporate, be annexed by a municipality, or stay the quiet "fishing village" it is.

"The discussion came about eight or nine years ago about incorporating Little River, making it the Village of Little River or Township of Little River," said Ronny West, past chairman and events coordinator at the Little River Chamber of Commerce.

"All we got back were people saying 'Why should we incorporate? All we'll get back is paying more taxes.' It didn't get off the ground. Well, times have changed."

Now the Little River Chamber has asked Coastal Carolina University to conduct an economic study weighing the pros and cons of incorporation and annexation, as well as what would happen if the town decides not to do either.
