Holland America Line Offers More Itinerary Choices to Experience the Panama Canal in 2007

With 28 cruises, 12 different itineraries and five ships, Holland America Line will lead premium lines with an extensive collection of Panama Canal cruises in 2007, featuring more New York departures, new February full transit crossings and a new port of call, Puerto Chiapas, on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Savvy travelers will appreciate the variety with cruises ranging from the popular 10-day Sunfarer and 14- to 22-day full transit crossings to a new 23-day Pan-America and Panama Canal cruise.

"Holland America Line was among the first to explore this spectacle of engineering, and we continue to lead the way today, offering several cruise lengths and many different port mixes in our itineraries," said Richard D. Meadows, CTC, senior vice president, marketing and sales.

Bryan brothers hope to take home doubles title

Twins Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States beat Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-1, Friday in the Wimbledon semifinals.

Nestor and Knowles bowed out after playing the longest match in Wimbledon history a 6-hour, 9-minute quarterfinal win over Simon Aspelin and Todd Perry.

The Bryans will play Fabrice Santoro of France and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia in today's final. Santoro and Zimonjic beat Martin Damm of the Czech Republic and India's Leander Paes, 6-2, 6-1, 7-5.

The Bryans haven't missed a Grand Slam doubles final since the 2004 U.S. Open. They've won two of six finals in between, the 2005 U.S. Open and this year's Australian Open.

From 1951 to 1952, Americans Ken McGregor and Frank Sedgman reached eight straight finals, winning the first seven before losing the 1952 U.S.

Uniquely Singapore heads Clipper fleet

Having passed the Turks & Caicos Islands, the Bahamas and Bermuda, the clippers are now passing by a continuous display of aviation history along the Eastern Seaboard - Cape Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Centre, and Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Flyer made the first powered flight back in 1903. The yachts are flying along too, making excellent speed under spinnaker as they approach the continental shelf. The race is now quite tense tactically. Over the last 24 hours, all of the fleet have gybed round to have the wind coming from their port side, the timing of which has been key to overnight gains and losses. Uniquely Singapore seem to have timed theirs well and are still in the lead, with westernaustralia.com in second place; the only yacht to have gained on Singapore overnight (by a whole mile!).The east-west spread of the fleet is going to become a lot more significant as they near land.

ROYAL ASCOT - Selections - Friday 23 June

Six of the last seven winners have carried weights of 8-7 or more, whilst twenty-four of the twenty-eight toteplacepot positions have been claimed by runners at the same end of the handicap. Just four of the twenty-eight horses to carry 8-6 or less reached the frame .

Dramatic new changes at Winn Dixie

Damages from the twin hurricanes of 2004 sped up the renovation process at the Winn Dixie downtown which consumers concur is long overdue.

Ken Burns, managing director of Bahamas Supermarkets, in an interview with The Freeport News Monday admitted a make-over at the downtown location was in the works, but the major roof damage in September of 2004 did help to push the project along.

The new decor at the downtown store has taken on a dramatic new change with a Bahamian flare. Burns pointed out, however, the interior is similar to that of the Winn Dixie stores in the United States with brighter walls and less colour.

Cognizant of the dark, old look the store portrayed, the managing director said it had much to do with the paint, lighting and flooring.

OBAT Assessment In Progress

It remains unclear which US agency would move in to fill the void if the US Army pulls out of the Operation Bahamas Turks and Caicos (OPBAT) counter-narcotics mission next year, but US Ambassador to The Bahamas John Rood said on Thursday a special team continues its assessment of the issue. .
