Tri-Valley High School teacher to research coral reef off coast of Belize

DRESDEN - Tri-Valley High School science teacher John Taylor-Lehman already knows his lesson plans for the upcoming school year will include discussions of the coral reefs.

After all, Taylor-Lehman will spend 14 days in Belize - part of Central America -scuba diving and studying the coral reefs as part of a research fellowship through the Earthwatch Institute.

"I'm always looking for new adventures," he said.

With 23 years of experience as a science teacher, Taylor-Lehman is no stranger to taking trips for research purposes. He has taken groups of high school students to the coral reef in the Bahamas seven times and uses the knowledge they gather in his oceanography and general science courses.

While looking for a new research possibility, he came upon the Earthwatch Institute, which he had first heard about on one of his trips to the Bahamas.
