Pollution worrying BHTA

The dumping of waste in gullies and noise pollution continue to be a headache for the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA).

Executive Vice President of the BHTA, Sue Springer, said that the dumping of waste in gullies continues to such an extent that it is now affecting some of the key attractions operating in the countryside of the island.

In addition, during her report at the associations recent Annual General Meeting, she said that noise pollution is still plaguing the tourism industry and the tranquillity of the citizens of Barbados. The number of complaints received by the association, especially from the designated tourism development area of St. Lawrence Gap, Springer said, is horrific and now affecting the viability of some of the businesses in this area.

For the past three years, the association has been calling for the new legislation for the environment which we are led to believe includes noise pollution.

D-day on death row

Four inmates on death row at Her Majesty's Prison will get the chance to have their sentences reviewed today before Senior Justice of the Supreme Court Anita Allen.

Senior Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General Gawain Ward last night confirmed that the death sentences of prison inmates Forrester Bowe, Robert Green, Ronald Simmons and Keith Jones will be opened and given a second look this morning.

Forrester Bowe was placed on death row for the shooting death of 20-year-old Dion Roach at an apartment complex in Freeport, Grand Bahama on October 23, 1992. Bowe was later sentenced to death on February 25, 1998. He has been in prison for the past eight years.

He appealed the conviction before the Court of Appeal where it was dismissed in April 1998.

Jack Nicklaus and Exclusive Resorts Form Alliance

Exclusive Resorts, the leader among luxury destination clubs, is further strengthening its golf amenities and services for its members through a partnership with legendary golfer, Jack Nicklaus, and the world's leading golf course design firm, Nicklaus Design. Nicklaus is working with Exclusive Resorts to elevate its current golf offerings and, through Nicklaus Design, to explore various real estate development opportunities for unique golf destinations for club members.

Responding to member surveys which consistently list golf as part of their lifestyle, Exclusive Resorts will elevate its golf program by sponsoring member events with Jack Nicklaus and incorporating golf training programs into the club through the Nicklaus Academies this year. Additionally, the two firms will explore future projects that will leverage their strengths in golf course design and luxury resort development. Combining Nicklaus Design's early stage participation in global projects and Exclusive Resorts' in-depth understanding of vacationers' recreation desires and luxury residence expertise could result in some of the world's best golf destinations.
