traditional foods in the bahamasBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationShowing Its True FaceWhenever the Palestinians come close to answering the call to resuming negotiations, Israel commits a terrible crime to raise the level of tension and therefore postpone reaching a solution to an unattainable date. In the meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister threatens to adopt a unilateral solution, a Zionist-style solution that would put the region on an active volcano that eats away a great portion of land and leaves the rest under constant threat of bombardment. This is Israel; this is its true face.zopinionz .Red Lobster Parent Piles On ProfitORLANDO - Restaurant-chain operator Darden Restaurants Inc. said Tuesday that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit grew 10 percent, fueled by stronger sales at its Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants.Quarterly profit rose to $92.3 million, or 60 cents a share, from $84 million, or 52 cents a share, in last year's fourth quarter. Sales grew to $1.51 billion from $1.39 billion. President and Chief Operating Officer Drew Madsen said Darden was able to drive higher sales despite tough economic conditions. He said the company is pleased with results of most of its brands but acknowledges it needs to work on its Smokey Bones barbecue brand. Smokey Bones' same-store sales - an important industry gauge of restaurants open more than a year - fell 7.7 percent in the quarter.
Compressed natural gas should replace LPGSome eight weeks past, in the middle of the Lenten season I wrote, what I thought at the time, would be my last missive on LNG.I became quite excited some two weeks afterwards when my good friend and classmate of six -plus years, the Minister responsible for energy and the environment (whose portfolio does not include LNG, which apparently has been deemed to be closer akin to fish or fowl than to energy or the environment), made an announcement indicating that Government would issue a definitive statement on the matter in short order. Two weeks later the Prime Minister announced to the nation that the government had made a policy decision that it is not opposed to LNG and that LNG "can happen in the country". That was a month ago. Since then an eerie silence has prevailed. In my prior article I touted the possibility of compressed natural gas (CNG) completely displacing propane (LPG or cooking gas if you will) for domestic and commercial cooking throughout the country, and at significant cost saving to users, once an LNG facility is established.
Nassau athletes dominate Grand Bahama BB showPaul Wilson, from Nassau returned to Grand Bahama to not only defend his Northern Bahamas championship title, but to try and win the cash prize that was up for grabs in the overall championship. But his mission would not be an easy one. You see, former two-time Mr. Bahamas, Aaron Green also came in town to try and grab hold of the prize up for grabs. On the Grand Bahama side, there was Andrew Sweeting, also a Northern Bahamas defending champion; Rob Harris, a first timer and John Hart a long time bodybuilder who was making a return to the stage after a long absence. One could only imagine what the overall pose-down would be like. For those bodybuilding fans who attended Saturday's Grand Bahama Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, they did not have to wonder - they experienced it live.
The Royal Oasis saleIn his budget presentation in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, June 7, Prime Minister Perry Christie appeared to have no reservations at all in announcing that a buyer had been found for the Royal Oasis resort in Freeport, which has been closed since September of 2004 after sustaining serious damages from Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne."Mr. Speaker, as we speak, the representatives of the government are closing a meeting in New York, and at that meeting, Lehman Brothers and the government have agreed to a purchaser for the Royal Oasis," the Prime Minister assured members of the House. Driftwood Freeport Ltd., which owns the Royal Oasis, was financed by Lehman Brothers, so obviously whatever decision they reached with regard to the sale of the hotel would have been binding.
Bahamas building boom raises concernsHUB CAY, Bahamas - Walt McCrory meanders past the cottages going up on this picturesque private island he and a group of investors bought two years ago.Chub Cay has no permanent residents, but the Du Ponts and other prominent Americans have holed up here for the past half-century. While guests are only a 45-minute flight from the United States, they feel like a world away, free to sunbathe on secluded beaches that boast some of the Bahamas' best sport fishing. But McCrory, a lawyer-turned-developer, and his partners, including builder Bob Moss and Florida boat show promoter Kaye Pearson, know Chub needs a face lift. Aside from the 69 tin-roofed bungalows that will fetch more than $1 million each, they're building a clubhouse with winding staircases and a lagoon-shaped pool to go with a marina that opened June 15.
