ORLANDO - Restaurant-chain operator Darden Restaurants Inc. said Tuesday that its fiscal fourth-quarter profit grew 10 percent, fueled by stronger sales at its Red Lobster and Olive Garden restaurants.Quarterly profit rose to $92.3 million, or 60 cents a share, from $84 million, or 52 cents a share, in last year's fourth quarter. Sales grew to $1.51 billion from $1.39 billion.
President and Chief Operating Officer Drew Madsen said Darden was able to drive higher sales despite tough economic conditions. He said the company is pleased with results of most of its brands but acknowledges it needs to work on its Smokey Bones barbecue brand.
Smokey Bones' same-store sales - an important industry gauge of restaurants open more than a year - fell 7.7 percent in the quarter.
Compressed natural gas should replace LPG
Some eight weeks past, in the middle of the Lenten season I wrote, what I thought at the time, would be my last missive on LNG.I became quite excited some two weeks afterwards when my good friend and classmate of six -plus years, the Minister responsible for energy and the environment (whose portfolio does not include LNG, which apparently has been deemed to be closer akin to fish or fowl than to energy or the environment), made an announcement indicating that Government would issue a definitive statement on the matter in short order. Two weeks later the Prime Minister announced to the nation that the government had made a policy decision that it is not opposed to LNG and that LNG "can happen in the country". That was a month ago. Since then an eerie silence has prevailed.
In my prior article I touted the possibility of compressed natural gas (CNG) completely displacing propane (LPG or cooking gas if you will) for domestic and commercial cooking throughout the country, and at significant cost saving to users, once an LNG facility is established.
Nassau athletes dominate Grand Bahama BB show
Paul Wilson, from Nassau returned to Grand Bahama to not only defend his Northern Bahamas championship title, but to try and win the cash prize that was up for grabs in the overall championship.But his mission would not be an easy one.
You see, former two-time Mr. Bahamas, Aaron Green also came in town to try and grab hold of the prize up for grabs.
On the Grand Bahama side, there was Andrew Sweeting, also a Northern Bahamas defending champion; Rob Harris, a first timer and John Hart a long time bodybuilder who was making a return to the stage after a long absence.

Driftwood Freeport Ltd., which owns the Royal Oasis, was financed by Lehman Brothers, so obviously whatever decision they reached with regard to the sale of the hotel would have been binding.

Darden Posts June Same-Store Sales
Darden Restaurants Inc. said Monday same-store sales at its Olive Garden chain grew 3 percent to 4 percent in June, while Red Lobster saw a 5 percent decline during the same period.Same-store sales, a widely watched gauge of business performance, measure activity at restaurants open at least a year.
The company said Olive Garden same-store sales were higher thanks to 1 percent to 2 percent more customers, as well as higher menu prices.
Red Lobster saw fewer guests, and had a slight increase in pricing.
The company also owns the Bahama Breeze restaurant chain and Smokey Bones Barbeque & Grill.
Darden closed up 47 cents at $38.41 on the New York Stock Exchange, then fell 40 cents to $38.01 in aftermarket trading.
