YARDMAN STYLE STRUTS

THE BAGGY jeans and 'yardie' shirts of Yardmanstyle designs have caught the attention of the Australian, German and Japan markets.

Hugh Johnson, Yardmanstyle's chief executive officer and one of the male designers featured at Caribbean Fashionweek 2006, said that after six years, Yardmanstyle is strutting across the globe.

"Established chain stores are coming to us saying, 'we have been watching you and we want your designs'," he said. "Not only Caribbean buyers but also those in the Far East and Europe."

A few weeks ago a contract was signed with 60-member chain store (Johnson does not want to disclose the store's name owing to competition) in Germany. A year ago, Yardmanstyle began shipping to chain stores in Japan.

The 'yardie' culture has definitely propelled Yardmanstyle.

Athol Island

There may no longer exist in law a designation of that area off Athol Island as a sea garden, but in reality the sea garden is still there, and recognising what it is and what it means should be reason enough for its continued protection.

There is a fear today that the proposed development of Athol Island which will include a golf course will do untold damage to the marine life there and will eventually destroy the coral reefs. Director of Maritime Resources Michael Braynen told The Guardian on Monday that an amendment to the Fisheries Act, in 1986, took away the protection from what was considered by many as "the world's oldest sea gardens."

However, the government and the people of The Bahamas should not be in agreement to let the sea gardens be destroyed for the simple reason that it may not be illegal, in law, and because the development of the island will bring in millions of dollars for the public and private sectors.

Keira's 'Pirates' Booty!

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY holds her own with the boys of her swashbuckling new sequel, 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,' and even gets to kiss both of her leading men! ET's MARK STEINES gets the 'Pirates' booty from the British star!

"Just give me one kiss; give me one kiss, please!" says Keira of her plea to the film's director and writers to lock lips with co-star JOHNNY DEPP in addition to hunky ORLANDO BLOOM -- and she got her wish. "I was quite happy actually! It's like, 'Wonderful, I can have feelings for both these very beautiful men. Excellent.'"

In the follow-up to 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,' sailing into theaters July 7, Keira's Elizabeth Swann is ready to walk down the aisle with Will Turner (Orlando). Their wedding plans are put on hold, however, when their unlikely pal, the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny), gets caught in a supernatural jam, owing a blood debt to the legendary Davy Jones (BILL NIGHY), captain of the ghostly Flying Dutchman.

Police lectured on healthy lifestyle, stress-free living

Reminding members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force that a healthy lifestyle is essential for a stress-free career, leaders of the Lucaya Urban Renewal Project and the Rand Memorial Hospital held a special health seminar yesterday at the Gerald Bartlett Headquarters.

Chief Superintendent and Police Press Liaison, Basil Rahming, addressed fellow members of the force, noting that the health seminar was a much needed awareness into health because it shows guidelines for stress-free living.

"There is an urgent need for this workshop because every moment of our working day is consumed with stress because throughout your day you do not know what you will be receiving," he told the group. "When it comes to maintaining a healthy living, what happens on the inside also affects what happens to us on the outside.
