Procreation vacation?

MIAMI -- When Lucinda Hughes heard she would have to drink sea moss elixir while vacationing in the Bahamas, she was certain it would make her sick. Sure enough, three months later, Hughes is very sick -- every morning -- and expecting her first baby.

She got pregnant after she and her husband went on a three-day Procreation Vacation at a resort on Grand Bahama Island.

It's part of a trend in which hotels around the world are luring couples who are trying to have a baby. Resorts are offering on-site sex doctors, romantic advice and exotic food and drink calculated to put lovers in the mood and hasten the pitter-patter of little feet.

Even some obstetricians are promoting the trend. Dr. Jason James of Miami said he often encourages couples trying to have a baby to sneak away for a few days, and he often sees it work.

Grand Bahama to be stage for NCAA basketball showdown

The fourth annual Junkanoo Jam, Grand Bahama Island Women's College Basketball Tourna-ment looks to be even more exciting than the previous three years, according to organisers.

With the participation of the past two seasons' NCAA National Champions, the 2006 Junkanoo Jam will again be one of the most competitive tournaments in women's college basketball.

Maryland, the 2006 NCAA National Champions, headlines the Freeport Division and Baylor, the 2005 NCAA National Cham-pions, headlines the Lucaya Division.

Six highly respected teams round out the remainder of the fields and are sure to give the former champions a run for the title.

The 2006 field includes Gardner-Webb, University of Maryland, University of Mississippi and North-western (Freeport Division) and Baylor, Central Florida University, South Dakota State and University of Virginia (Lucaya Division).

Colina in Exuma

ColinaImperial Insurance Co. Ltd., the country's largest insurance provider is expanding its presence throughout The Bahamas. Last week the company opened the doors of its first office in George Town, Exuma. The office is located in the Turnquest Star Plaza and staffed by Chantel Dames, Administrator and Deetra Symonette, Marketing Assistant.

Dashwell Flowers, Vice President of Sales for Colina-Imperial, said the company already has offices in Nassau and Grand Bahama and felt that Exuma was the most appropriate place to establish an office because of the rapid development and growth taking place on the island. He said the company already has about 1,200 policyholders in the Exumas and expects that number to grow quickly over the next few weeks and months.

According to Mr Flowers the Exuma office will now give Exumians more convenient access to the same cutting edge insurance and investment products which are available in Nassau including the company's New Provider Series, general insurance from Colina General and pensions and annuities from ColinaImperial's sister company CFAL.
