"We've really started to make waves in the Caribbean now, and people are seeing us as a developing and up-and-coming nation in football," Bahamas technical director Gary Whyte said. "We have gotten better. We've had teams qualify in the past, but the one great thing about this team is that the players have come right through our system." Preparations have been ongoing since the side returned from first-round play in Cuba earlier in September.
Els, Woods in property ventureNassau, Bahamas - Golf legends Tiger Woods and Ernie Els on Thursday won approval from Bahamian officials for a luxury resort they are helping finance along with a group led by a British billionaire.The US$1.3bn private residential community, planned for an exclusive corner of New Providence island, will include an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Els, Woods said in a statement. It will be called the Albany Golf & Beach Club. "With Albany, I look forward to spending more time in the Bahamas and playing Ernie on our new golf course," the world's top golfer said. "We plan to make Albany very special." The government and representatives of the Tavistock Group, a holding company managed by British billionaire and Bahamian resident Joseph Lewis, signed the deal on Thursday allowing construction to go forward after two years of negotiations and environmental impact studies.
Federal Agents Find Child Sex Suspect In Bahamas(CBS4) BAHAMAS For months, diplomatic security agents say Albert Rachel has been on the lam, running from charges of alleged sex with an underage girl in New Smyrna Beach, but this weekend agents found him in the Bahamas."There's no running," said Ed Moreno, Diplomatic Security Agent in Charge. "We can track him around the world." Agents say they found him hiding in a remote Bahamian island. Just a few weeks ago, they received a tip that he had started a new life on Warderick Wells Cay. Palm Beach Official Busted For Land Deals Including Diocese ParcelMIAMI---A commissioner on the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners misused his position to personally enrich himself, his family and his secret business partners in a series of land deals in Palm Beach, Martin and Brevard Counties, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.Anthony R. Masilotti, 50, of Wellington has been charged in a criminal information with fraud conspiracy. The information also seeks forfeiture of millions of dollars in assets derived from the fraud conspiracy, account to R. Alexander Acosta, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. If convicted, Masilotti faces a maximum period of five years of incarceration and a $250,000 fine in addition to the criminal forfeitures. The information alleges that, among other things, Masilotti advocated and voted on these matters without disclosing to the BCC and the public his secret financial interest in the transactions, which ultimately netted him millions of dollars. | ||||
