PBL draws everyone into the 007 mission

PBL is claiming its cross-media advertising push is working, with the latest campaign to promote the new James Bond film the tenth such deal in the past four weeks.

UN Report Says Caribbean Making "Inroads" into HIV/AIDS

United Nations: With the benefits of wider access to antiretroviral treatment, the United Nations says several Caribbean countries were making "inroads" in the fight against the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

According to the 2006 report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS, the progress in stemming the epidemic is more evident in the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba and Jamaica.

"The balanced approach adopted in Barbados, emphasizing both HIV prevention and treatment, is showing encouraging results," the report said.

It said the introduction of antiretroviral treatment in Barbados in 2001 has led to a "steep decline" in AIDS death rates since the late 1990s, from 43.2 per 100,000 persons older than 16 years in 1997 - 1999 to 17.2 per 100,000 persons during 2003 - 2005.

"However, AIDS is still a significant cause of premature deaths among adults, mainly because many people still opt for treatment only after they have become severely ill," the report said.
