bahamas islandBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationI'm in the mood for procreation . . .With the midterm election serving as a cold shower applied to the national libido, especially with the horrible spectacle of the politicians having their wicked way with the facts, we can all be forgiven for having a collective headache. But romance needs to be revived before the winter cuddling season is upon us.Unfortunately, a recent Associated Press trend story brings disturbing news. Apparently what comes naturally needs some unnatural help in this era of busy, stressful lives. Hotels around the world are marketing themselves in order to attract couples who are trying to have a baby. As the AP story reported: "Resorts are offering on-site sex doctors, romantic advice and exotic food and drink calculated to put lovers in the mood and hasten the pitter-patter of little feet." A married couple quoted in the story went on a three-day Procreation Vacation at a resort on Grand Bahamas Island, where they drank a Caribbean fertility potion made from sea moss.
Bahamas. Atlantis Marina receives Blue Flag certification awardAtlantis Marina at the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in The Bahamas has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag marina certification by the international, independent organization, the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Blue Flag signifies that stringent water quality, safety and environmental management and education programs have been established by the resort. The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to over 3,100 beaches and marinas in 36 countries across Europe, Africa and the Caribbean each year. The Atlantis Marina was the only marina in The Bahamas to meet the 22 criteria necessary to receive the Blue Flag honor in 2006. Marinas and beaches participating in this voluntary program work with FEE to ensure the sustainable development of beaches and marinas around the globe.Diners still find paradise at Casa D'AngeloNews that chef Angelo Elia was opening a fine-dining outpost at Paradise Island's Atlantis resort made us fret. Would this top toque be leaving us for the Bahamas? Would his superb cuisine suffer from divided attention? We're happy to report all is well in Elia's house. The chef is still in the kitchen at Fort Lauderdale's Casa D'Angelo, turning out glorious Tuscan meals matched by a superb wine list and exemplary service, making for one of the best dining experiences in town. Elia sent one of his top managers to join the staff of the Atlantis restaurant, which opened in October, and says he has no intention of leaving Lauderdale's Casa D'Angelo. ''It is my life,'' he says. He learned many of his dishes in his mother's kitchen in Florence (her many fans will be happy to hear she'll be here this month, making her famous fusilli at the restaurant).
Bahamas approves resort developmentTiger Woods and Ernie Els gained approval from Bahamian officials on Thursday for a luxury resort they're helping finance along with a group led by a British billionaire. The US$1.3 billion (1 billion) private residential community, planned for an exclusive corner of New Providence island, will include an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Els, Woods said in a statement. It will be called the Albany Golf & Beach Club. "With Albany, I look forward to spending more time in the Bahamas and playing Ernie on our new golf course," Woods said. "We plan to make Albany very special." The government and representatives of the Tavistock Group, a holding company managed by British billionaire and Bahamian resident Joseph Lewis, signed the deal on Thursday allowing construction to go forward after two years of negotiations and environmental impact studies.
