Bahama Islands Articles and Information on the BahamasBahama Islands News, Articles and InformationCARIBBEAN-HAWAII SPECIAL SECTION: Your place in paradiseNASSAU, Bahamas -- The online vacation rental advertisement looks like a fabulous find. For $350 a night, it's a two-bedroom villa at the upscale Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island along the powdery sand of Cabbage Beach. But when you look more closely, it's a lie."Easy walking distance of Atlantis," the small print more truthfully says. "Easy walking distance to Cabbage Beach." Yeah, right. Bring your hiking shoes. Meanwhile, at Guanahani Village on Cable Beach west of Nassau, three-bedroom ocean-view condos rent for $306 per night in high season for two people (each additional person $20 more.) What you don't see on the Web site, however, is that the 35-unit oceanfront timeshare property has just been sold to a private Bahamian group and is undergoing an upgrade.

In order for this to happen, he said, a transformation must take place. "It was, and is still, 'Better in The Bahamas'; however, as with any model, ours has brought The Bahamas only so far," said Mr. Christie. "It became clear that if we were to maintain our special position in tourism a new vision was needed...[and] it is to transform the economy of The Bahamas in several dimensions." Even though the nation's model was one of the most successful and is copied throughout the hemisphere, many of the country's smaller islands have been neglected when it comes to benefits of a good tourism sector.
Anna Nicole house-hunting in the BahamasAnna Nicole Smith is house-hunting again in the Bahamas, where a former boyfriend is seeking to remove her from a waterfront home where she has taken refuge since her son's death. The reality TV star and her companion Howard K. Stern are considering homes on the islands of Eleuthera, Grand Bahama and elsewhere in the archipelago, Smith lawyer Wayne Munroe said today. Smith, who gave birth to a daughter in the Bahamas, used the house in Nassau as the basis for her application for permanent residency. The home has been the subject of an ownership dispute between her and a South Carolina businessman. If a court rules against her in the dispute, Munroe said Smith wants to make sure she can meet the condition of owning a home worth at least $US500,000 ($A657,000) needed to maintain permanent residency in the Bahamas.
High Performance Marketing:I have always been good at math. I remember the summer of my birthday, my parents went on vacation to the Bahamas leaving three of my siblings and me under the watchful eyes of my maternal grandparents. Being grandparents, buying gifts was their prerogative. While at the grocery store, my waist-level eyes caught a glimpse of something that I just needed to have. Needless to say, my grandmother was more than delighted to accommodate my desire, buying me my first set of multiplication flash cards. From that point in my life, other than the occasional dyslexic shift in digits, counting has been a skill at which I excelled. So, it seems odd to me that when clients inquire about how to count, I fumble for a succinct answer. The counting inquiry: "How does one count response to a marketing program?" I usually surprise myself with an immediate reply of deafening silence to the inquirer while inside my head a jumble of words such as: gross, net, over-control, statistically significant, single and multiple attributions, direct and inferred.
Locals dive in Abaco's Open Water 5K raceMulti national record holder in men's swimming, Jeremy Knowles, was the top male finisher at the Abaco 5K Open Water Race in the beautiful waters between Marsh Harbour and Hope Town during the Discovery Day holiday weekend.According to Jeremy's father and race organiser Andy Knowles, head of the SWIFT Swimming Club, much of the success of the event is attributed to sponsors, Abaco Beach Resort and the Ministry of Tourism. "This year's success will hopefully lead to a greater participation from international swimmers in the future. With Open Water Swimming now an Olympic event it promises to attract more interest," Knowles senior said in a press release. The Nassau Guardian Sports Desk tried to reach Jeremy, who we understood returned to Auburn, Alabama to continue training at Auburn University, but attempts were unsuccessful up to press time.
