Smith's quick path to Bahamian residency and the high priority given to an investigation into her son's mysterious death are eclipsing the economy and other issues in political debates. The island chain is preparing for general elections next year. Smith moved to the Bahamas in July and gave birth to a baby girl in September with little public fanfare. That changed when her 20-year-old son, Daniel, died three days after the baby was born. Allegations of special treatment surfaced after the head coroner scheduled an inquest three days after Daniel Smith's death, despite a backlog of requests for inquests into other deaths. Boat Show constant: Everything's biggerFort Lauderdale The boats at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show just keep on getting bigger, and it's not only the superyachts. The Fort Lauderdale show is known for having the most boats 80 feet and longer, which is the definition of a superyacht. At the 47th edition of the show, which opened Thursday at six sites and runs through Monday, I also found bigger versions of everything, including center consoles, the most popular type of offshore fishing boat in South Florida. The luxurious superyachts get most of the attention at the show, and it's been that way since I covered my first Fort Lauderdale boat show in 1990. The difference now is that the sizes of the boats, and their price tags, have increased significantly. Back in the good old days, you could get a really nice boat for $10 million. Latest Cycling News for November 22, 2006One of the unannounced and low-key visitors to the Sydney round of the UCI Track World Cup was none other than man-of-the-moment, cyclist, millionaire and cycling team sponsor, Oleg Tinkov. The Siberian was in Sydney en-route to Fiji for a holiday, apparently, and took time out to visit Dunc Gray Velodrome to catch some of the track racing action; in particular, riders such as Mikhail Ignatiev and Nikolei Trussov, who were both representing Russia (and are also riders in the Italy-based, Russia-registered Tinkoff Restaurants professional squad). Tinkoff himself is not only a very successful businessman in Russia, he's also fit enough to race for his own team, as Sergey Kurdyukov revealed in this profile and interview in May this year. His regular training partners include Viatcheslav Ekimov, the legendary Russian cyclist who also wrote Tinkov's training program that helped the businessman shed almost 20kg's to get back to racing weight.
