All not lost for Team Bahamas

Team Bahamas gave host Barbados a run for their money during the second round of the CONCACAF/Digicel Gold Cup Caribbean Zone Qualifier this weekend. However, our 'Rake and Scrape Boys' fell 2-1, and were set to play Bermuda yesterday evening at 6 pm. The result from that match was unavailable up to press time. Team Bahamas is in Group G along with second round host Barbados, Bermuda, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

"It was a very close game end-to-end," said senior men's National Team Head Coach Gary White. "We had a lapse in our concentration between the 40th minute and half-time, because it was still nil-nil up to the 40th minute," he further explained, speaking about the loss from his hotel room in Barbados yesterday.

Considering that the higher ranked Barbados team only beat them by one goal, White was asked if this was a match that our 'Rake and Scrape Boys' could've won.

Newspapers as far away as China have reported on the catalogue of controversies that have developed in the aftermath of the death of

Smith's 20-year-old son, Daniel, on September 20, while visiting his mother in her hospital room.

Anna Nicole had given birth to a baby girl at Doctors Hospital in Nassau on September 7, but this fact was not publicly known until Daniel's death, which is still somewhat shrouded in mystery, made

international headlines.

Mitchell backs NHI plan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell said yesterday that the government is right on time in implementing the National Health Insurance plan as many sick Bahamians are being denied medical attention.

Mr Mitchell, who was a guest on Jeff Lloyd's radio talk show yesterday, said that bringing into effect something like the NHI, to address pressing health care issues, was long overdue.

Responding to NHI critics who have accused the government of rushing the plan without the proper consultation, the foreign affairs minister insisted that officials had taken all the necessary steps required, at this point, in dealing with the matter.

"It's not being rushed, there has been the fullest consultations," he said. "The framework legislation is going to be passed, we hope before the end of the year, because this is a landmark legislation.
