Rum Runners offers booze, beach and AC!

There was a party going on when I ducked in Rum Runners Lounge last Saturday. Someone was celebrating the Big 5-0 and a cast of baby boomers took turns singing "Urban Cowboy" country tunes and classic rock favorites. Most of the people - me included - were visiting the new watering hole for the first time.

The setting proved a choice selection for the grinning attendees.

Rum Runners sits in the Braden River Plaza strip mall on State Road 64 just inside Bradenton's eastern border. The bar is hidden behind a pizza shop and the free-standing Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar that dominates the parking lot.

Whereas Applebee's offers a family friendly drinking and dining destination, Rum Runners, as the name suggests, is strictly for drinkers.

There is no food on the menu.

The message said:

BAHAMA PROVES HOT STUFF

Bahama Mama advertised the strength in depth of Jeremy Noseda's two-year-olds with a gutsy success in the Smith & Williamson Dragon Stakes at Sandown.

The daughter of Invincible Spirit lost her unbeaten record in the Albany Stakes, in which stablemate Sander Camillo landed a gamble, but was happier dropped back to five furlongs and answered Shane Kelly's every call to hold Mood Music by a length and a quarter.

Following this Listed success, Bahama Mama has obtained some valuable black type and races such as the Flying Childers and Cornwallis Stakes may appeal to connections later in the year.

John Davis, one of Noseda's travelling head grooms, said of the 7-2 chance: "She didn't quite see out the six furlongs at Royal Ascot, although she was bang there a furlong from home and she appreciated this stiff five."

Sander Camillo is looked upon as a candidate for the 1000 Guineas and puts her claims for that on the line in the Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket next week.
